On Sunday, May 5, 2019, President Trump announced that he would raise the List 3 Section 301 tariffs from 10 percent to 25 percent on $200 billion worth of imported Chinese products due to stalled trade negotiations between the two countries. President Trump indicated that the tariff increase would go into effect on May 10, 2019. We cannot confirm that this will occur because the postponement is not official until the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) publishes an announcement in the Federal Register. President Trump claimed that the “Trade Deal with China continues, but too slowly.” Additionally, President Trump indicated that tariffs on a fourth list of products worth approximately $325 billion would be forthcoming.
